Janet Statland, Executive Director
Janet began began her career in health care at the age of 20 when she accepted a position as a Certified Nursing Assistant with a county hospital. At the age of 35, after raising her children, she returned to work as a trained social worker in a skilled nursing facility. Since 1991 Janet has worked in a variety of positions, including Activity Director, Medical Records Director, Marketing Director, Social Worker, Assistant Administrator and Corporate Regional Marketing Director. She became the Executive Director of Legacy Retirement Residence of Mesa when it opened in 2008.
Jeannine Braunberger, Marketing Director
Jeannine considers it a privilege to have worked in the assisted living and retirement community profession for approximately three decades. She has worked for regional and national companies, often earning top performance recognition. During much of her service, she has held the position of Marketing Director and is honored to be a part of the Legacy Retirement Mesa team. Jeannine has both an Arizona Real Estate License and an Assisted Living Manager’s certification. Jeannine is also Stephen Ministry certified. She enjoys mountain pines, family shows, her greenhouse, and scenic drives. She is married to Michael and resides in Mesa, Arizona.
Lindy Fasel, Executive Assistant
Lindy has been employed in the senior-living industry for 12+ years. She feels that her experience volunteering for hospitals, managing a retirement apartment complex and working for Legacy Retirement Residence of Mesa has given her a unique insight into the mindset of Legacy residents. She feels that everyone should be treated with love, respect and understanding. Lindy has been married for 45+ years and loves spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Dawn Wallace, Assistant Administrator
Dawn started working with seniors in 1989 at the age of 18 as a receptionist in a skilled nursing facility. She quickly advanced to admissions, billing and social services. A native of California, she relocated to Arizona when her husband was transferred with his company. Dawn enjoys the relationships she has been able to make with both our residents and resident families. She is married to her best friend, Gary, and has two beautiful girls. Together, they live by the saying, “Live, Laugh and Love!”
CeCe Carillo, AL Assistant Administrator
CeCe began her career in the health-care industry more than 15 years ago and worked her way up from housekeeper to her current position as Assistant Administrator. Having worked as a caregiver and a Resident Care Coordinator, she is aware of the challenges residents and their families face on a day-to-day basis. She is married, and enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren. CeCe also enjoys exercising, fishing and camping.
Trudy Murray, LPN--Wellness Nurse
Trudy has been a Licensed Practical Nurse for more years than she can count. She received her degree from New York State. Trudy has worked in a variety of health-care facilities, including three different retirement communities, a skilled nursing facility and a hospital. You will never find her in her office because she is always with the residents helping them in some way. She has seven children, 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Trudy loves working with the elderly because she feels that “the two most important times of life are the beginning and the end.” She feels that she truly understands residents’ issues and concerns when it comes to aging.
Wanda Gerber, LPN--Wellness Nurse
Throughout her rather lengthy nursing career, she has been lucky enough to have worked in hospitals, skilled care facilities and Assisted living communities. The one thing that has remained constant, is her passion for caring and advocating for the people who have put their trust in her. Wanda now finds herself in this community where those values start at the top and are encouraged. It is a grand feeling and she is happy to be considered a part of this community.
Rob Iqbal, Director of Dining Services
Rob is an Arizona native who started his career in the food and beverage industry very young – the age of 15, to be exact. He graduated from Scottsdale Culinary Institute with a 4.0 GPA and has mostly worked in large hotel and conference settings. He was looking for a change from the “standard hospitality” offerings and found it at Legacy. What Rob enjoys most is making a difference in someone’s day by doing what he does best, putting smiles on faces by creating delicious meals. He believes in leadership by example, and in his spare time he loves to do anything food related.
Mailani Fernandez, Recreation Director
Mailani started her career in senior living in 2004 after her great grandmother developed Alzheimer’s and moved into an Assisted Living. With a background in recreation, Mailani really found her calling and passion, working with seniors doing activities. Mailani is from the island of Kauai, Hawaii and loves to share the Hawaiian culture with her residents through cooking, history and hula dancing classes. Mailani’s approach to Activities is unique and modern, focusing and embracing arts, modern-day technology and out-of-the-box thinking! Mailani uses a Montessori-type approach, where every activity has a meaningful purpose and flow.
Robert Odle, Maintenance Director
Robert has worked in the maintenance industry since 1990, and began working in senior-living communities three years later. Growing up, he was constantly surrounded by elderly members of his family, who they all cherished. They always had the best stories and were rarely surprised by anything because they had seen it all and lived to tell the tale. He attended Arizona State University and enjoys restoring antiques, playing guitar and exploring Arizona in his Jeep. Our residents are on the last leg of a long journey. His job is to make that road as smooth as possible, as he hopes someone, someday, will do the same for him.
Monica Torres, Housekeeping Supervisor
Monica is happily married and loves her children, in her spare time she enjoys cooking and listening to music while spending time with her family. Monica has been a part of the Legacy Retirement team since December of 2009. She began her career here as part of our wonderful housekeeping team. She later decided to become Certified as a Caregiver as she loves to help people, especially the amazing seniors we have here in our community. Monica’s drive to do good within in our community while working closely with her team members to deliver the best care possible is what led her to be our Housekeeping Supervisor.
